A group in Canada, the Quebec Society for the Protection of Animals, found the dog listed below on the streets. He was so dirty and his fur was so matted, he could hardly be recognized as an animal (not to mention a dog).
His hair was so matted and dirty that it seemed much larger than it actually was.
More than 50% of his size was due to his matted hair.
Therefore, his rescuers rushed to cut off all that nasty hair.
