Let's get to know what are the types of language, all of them used with the aim of communicating with other people, expressing our feelings or even transmitting knowledge, ideas and other details.

Natural language

Natural language is the type of language we use in our day to day, spontaneously and without previously preparing it. That is, it is the way in which we express ourselves naturally.

Artificial language

On the opposite side we have what is considered as artificial language, which differs from natural language by the fact that this language is previously prepared, that is, it does not come out naturally, but requires prior preparation and organization.

Literary language

Literary language is the type of language that is used by writers, and depending on each case it can present multiple variations depending on the target audience, making use in many cases of technicalities aimed at connoisseurs of a certain subject.

Scientific and technical language

On the other hand, we have the scientific language that is based on that which is used within a closed nucleus of professionals, thus improving communication always oriented to the knowledge of the field in question.

Within this type of language we can find some varieties such as mathematical language and programming language among others.

• Mathematical Language: Mathematical language is a type of artificial, literary, scientific and technical language, and its objective is mathematical communication from previously defined concepts.
• Programming language: It is a type of artificial, literary, scientific and technical language that is used in order to establish communication with computers and other computer systems.

Formal language

On the other hand we have the formal language that is used to communicate within groups in which formality in communication prevails, whether academic groups or professional groups.

All the main characteristics of a formal language is that we will not find omission of words, nor are the so-called fillers used. The vocabulary is much more specific and there will be no repetitions of words, but there will be a good organization and always respecting the punctuation marks. That is why it will be used when we communicate in situations where there is no familiarity or trust.

Verbal language

Verbal language is defined as a type of language in which there is an exchange of words with another or other people, either through the use of spoken language or written language. Includes all kinds of acronyms, expressions, etc. and it comes in three varieties that are oral, written and iconic verbal language.

It is the most important means of human communication. Both voice and speech allow us to understand as well as express ourselves. This will develop the power capacity of communicate verbally. It can be said that spoken language is the result of a process of learning the stimuli that surround us. We can also define it as the means or the ability to understand verbal symbols.

Oral language

Within the verbal language we have the oral language that is the one that predominates as spoken language, so that, through the use of a series of sounds, the thoughts are transmitted from one person to another.

Written language

We also have the written language which is a graphic representation of the sounds of spoken language, so that the ideas transmitted can last and be known even by people with whom we will never have any relationship.

Iconic language

Finally, within the oral language we have the iconic language, which is one that uses basic symbols combined with each other, so that a vocabulary is established from which the grammar is born.

It is a language of both linguistic and visual representation. That is, reality will be represented in the form of images. In this case, the words will not be necessary but when we see said image, we will know how to interpret it. This happens when we see the colors, some icons or shapes.

Nonverbal language

As for non-verbal language, it is one of the types of language in which there are no words but there is communication, so that the person who does it habitually is not aware of it, and here our gestures would enter, the way we move our body, the way we look, etc.

Non-verbal language is in turn divided into two other languages ​​that are kinesic language and facial language.

Social language

Broadly speaking, we call the social language as one that is used in very specific situations and also, by specific speakers. For example, it is the one that refers to the behavior of children. It is a language that adapts to be able to relate to the closest environment. It will be the child who adapts his type of language or his dialogue when in front of his interlocutor.

Kinesic language

It is a type of non-verbal language that is characterized by expressing itself through our body, including facial expression, the movements we make with the body, and in general all gestures.

Facial language

It is the second type of non-verbal language that, in this case, focuses on the movement of the muscles of the face and the gestures that are born from it.

Vernacular language

As for the vernacular, it is a type of language focused on the native language of the place where it is spoken. As an example, we would have that Spanish is the vernacular language of Spain, but it is not the vernacular of Colombia or Mexico, since it is originally from the former and adapted to the latter.

Egocentric language

Regarding egocentric language, it is a language that is part of children's development, so we will observe that they often speak to themselves, since they have not yet developed their capacity for socialization.

Indeed, this type of language can also occur in normal people who sometimes prefer to speak to themselves out of habit, and of course also in those others who have some type of psychological or social problem that makes them use egocentric language.
