TOP 8 guidelines to overcome temptation

Before you see those 8 guidelines to overcome temptation, I invite you to watch this video of just over 0 minutes to recharge our willpower a little more.

I already edited this video a few years ago but I still love it, especially the music. I hope it motivates you to defeat your own demons:

I am a smoker (4 cigarettes a day) and I want to reduce my consumption to 2 cigarettes a day. No, I don't want to quit smoking. Reducing that consumption costs me horrors so I have established 8 guidelines to help me achieve my purpose. You can also use them to establish new healthy habits in your life.

1) Interrupt the thoughts that make you return to vice.

We all have that moment of temptation in which our brain tricks us into doing what our hedonistic part wants: "come have one more cigarette that you deserve for the day you had today." Our brain is the greatest Judas in history! 😉

We have to realize these self-delusions to nip them in the bud: do some push-ups, cross yourself (if you are a believer), go for a walk, yell!… Do anything to interrupt those tempting thoughts.

2) Focus on the end result.

When you are tempted to stay home instead of going out to exercise, remember why you decided to exercise, think about the end result, visualize yourself looking vigorous and beautiful.

3) Fill your life with reminders.

Write a letter addressed to yourself explaining what you want to do, it is better than explaining it to yourself by looking in the mirror (as someone sees you, they may think you are crazy, and with good reason). Fill your usual spaces in the house with small notes that remind you or encourage you in your goal.

Keep an amulet in your pocket to serve as a reminder. Use something that evokes a feeling in you as it will be more powerful. Have you already chosen it?

4) There is a fight: pleasure against pain.

The life of the human being is reduced to a very simple idea: avoid pain and seek pleasure.

In the present case, we associate pain with quitting smoking, going to the gym on this rainy day, depriving ourselves of a cake, ... It is precisely the opposite: it may be painful at the moment not to smoke a cigarette or avoid that behavior that we really want to do. But after those 5 minutes of temptation, our feeling of pleasure at having done the right thing will increase.

5) Focus on the positive.

In this process the key is your mind. She is the one who will help you out of temptation successfully. The mind likes pictures (better than words). Visualize all the advantages that your objective brings you.

6) Change your habit.

I'm going to have to change my habit of smoking a cigarette after eating. However, I have to change it for another habit because by eliminating a habit so ingrained in me, it will leave a very big void. After eating I will drink a couple of glasses of whiskey… .no, just kidding.

I have to replace it with a healthy habit. In my case, I will eat a piece of fruit (which I have not tasted in a long time).

7) Let the temptation catch you prepared.

Before finishing the meal I am already thinking about the cigarette. After putting the last bite in my mouth, I have to prepare a series of proactive behaviors that will keep me away from temptation: take my fruit to my room and breathe deeply.

I leave you other ideas that may still serve you:

- Sing, yes ... sing. Not me, I pass this one because I sing very badly but you who sing wonderfully well can put on your fantastic MP4 and sing your favorite song while you go to the gym.

- Read that wonderful letter that you have written in point 3 to remind yourself why you have chosen to diet.

8) Take care of the inner language.

I have to eliminate from my mind thoughts that include phrases such as: "I can not", "I better start tomorrow", ...
