He tells us in 3 minutes what it means to live with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Is called Damian Alcolea, is a Spanish actor and suffers from obsessive compulsive disorder. This mental disorder is highly disabling. In a few moments you will see and listen to the talk that Damián gave more than a year ago at a TEDxMadrid event and that I have now known thanks to the Upsocl website.

Their lecture is only 3 minutes long but they are full of emotion.

It seems that Damien has two objectives in the conference: to reveal to the world that he has OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) and in this way to feel free "coming out of the closet"; and the second objective, to make its audience aware that it is necessary to stop stigmatizing mental illnesses:

To see how a person with obsessive compulsive disorder acts, just watch the movie «Best Impossible», I recommend it ... but If you want to see a real person in full crisis look:

Lamentable the laughter of the people who record this scene.

Damián Alcolea has written a book entitled "Headdresses" in which through an alter ego he recounts his experiences with this disease. You can buy it at Amazon.

3 statistical data on this disease.

1) OCD is often a chronic, relapsing disease. Fortunately, there are more and more effective treatments to help people with OCD.

2) OCD affects men and women equally.

3) OCD usually begins during adolescence or early childhood; at least one-third of adult OCD cases began in childhood.

I DON'T SUFFER BUT MY PARTNER HAS OCD AND IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND IT. I DON'T KNOW HOW TO HELP HIM, HE WASHES HIS HANDS EVERY TIME HE WASHES HIS BODY WITH BLEACH, GETS GEL AT EVERY TIME…. IF YOU SEE A STAIN ANYONE CHANGES OUT OF CLOTHES AT EVERY TIME WHEN I ARRIVE, HE DOESN'T WANT TO GREET ME UNTIL I HAVE CHANGED BECAUSE MY CLOTHES ARE DIRTY AND HE ALREADY BATHROOM IS HORRIBLE AND I HAVE A LITTLE SON AND I WOULD NOT LIKE HIM TO TREAT IT OF IMITATING OR THAT MY CHILD MAY SUFFER FROM THIS DISORDER

Woman but that is genetic ... It would be a shame if your son inherits it ... you should have thought before about fostering a family with a disabled person ... luck

Cathy, sorry for your comment, to date it has not been proven that OCD is hereditary and would be a disability in the event that this disorder causes difficulty in performing daily tasks. Another thing, a person who has this disorder, does not have the right to start a family? Lucky

Cathy… mijita, you didn't understand anything!

It is an obsession, not a disability. They just need understanding and love. It's a clumsy comment.

That comment is out of place, you have to live it or have someone close to it to understand it or I think you do have a problem, right? you are not empathic.

Clown, what happens that a person with OCD cannot have children? Piece of uncultivated, what a pity of comment that a difficult life does not hold for you
