Self-esteem dynamics for all ages

Having good self-esteem is necessary in order to enjoy a successful life and have good mental and emotional health. Self-esteem depends a lot on the circumstances lived, the people around us and what one thinks about himself. Self-esteem is the ability that human beings have to feel good about themselves, when they have it damaged, they will not feel good in their own skin.

A person who has strong self-esteem will be able to better cope with life's situations and adversities. It is necessary to establish self-esteem from childhood so that in adulthood it can serve as a stable base in the experiences that are lived day after day. Although unfortunately, not everyone has good self-esteem and this can take its toll.

Self-esteem dynamics are ideal for all ages, although it is necessary to choose the appropriate dynamic according to the age of the person to whom it is directed. Any child, adolescent or adult who feels insecure or does not believe in himself can benefit from them.

Dynamics of self-esteem for children and adolescents

The game of the stars

In this game you have to give a paper star to each child / adolescent who will have to paint with the color they like the most, then, from behind, they will have to write their name and 3 things they like to do. When it is finished you will have to exchange the star with a partner next door if it is done in class, with siblings or parents if it is done from home.

Each one will read aloud the star they have received and which is not theirs but they will not be able to say the name. The others will have to guess. It is an activity that helps children reflect on their own interests and reading aloud what other people like to do helps them feel more integrated in their social group, knowing the interests of others. In addition, when he says that the star that has been read is his / her, his / her identity is also being promoted, essential to enhance good self-esteem.

The envelope game

In this game each child or adolescent will have a sheet and an envelope in front of him. They will have to write on the sheet three defects that they recognize in themselves or things that they do not like and that they would like to change about themselves. Then he puts that paper in the envelope and closes it. The envelope will have to put the name and it is passed on to the classmate if it is done in class or to a brother or parents if it is done at home.

The person who receives the envelope will have to write three qualities or virtues that they recognize in the person who owns the envelope and will write it on the outside. Then this envelope will be passed on to another person to do the same. The game ends when the envelope reaches the owner's hands (the game can be played in a circle, for example).

The purpose of the game is that a person recognizes himself in his shortcomings, but he also has many virtues that may not be recognized and that it is a good idea for him to realize what others think. The participant will discover all the good that others think about him.

Highlight the positives and negatives

As is known, neither extreme is good, in any aspect of life. All children, for example, have defects and virtues, just like adults. They are personality traits that others may like more or less. If children do good things it is necessary to express it to them so that they know that we are aware that they have done something that is good, it is necessary that they obtain recognition for that.

If, on the other hand, they have made mistakes, do not scold them or tell them that they are doing it completely wrong ... you just have to make them see the mistake they made and tell them positively so do not get emotionally blocked and can improve in the future thanks to learning.

Children and adolescents need to be aware that they can have a second or third chance if necessary or very important. When they have the correct result, you will have to make him see how he was able to overcome that adversity thanks to perseverance.

A face to the past

Writing a letter always connects with oneself, with who we really are. It allows us to remember what we have done to get where we are, always highlighting the positive in our actions or decisions. Although the path of life is not always pleasant, we must learn from mistakes and realize the virtues that we have and that have helped us to be who we are today. In this sense, this exercise helps us to write to ourselves, to our past self and to tell ourselves things that will make us connect deeply with ourselves.

Discover your virtues

Not everyone is aware of the virtues they have, so it is necessary to be aware of this. To be aware of this you will have to write a list of your skills and virtues, do it as a description of yourself and do it as if you were describing another person. Focusing on the things you are good at and the things you would like to be good at or could be.

This practice seems simple but it has great power over you because it will help you strengthen your self-esteem and motivation. When you write these things you can also ask yourself what you want to improve in the future to become a better version of yourself.

Self-esteem is above all about knowing yourself, both your strengths and weaknesses and having enough confidence to overcome the obstacles that arise in life. In this way, people, of any age, will see their self-esteem strengthened and their lives will improve in all aspects. These are just a few exercises to strengthen yourself internally and to better prepare for the potential obstacles that life throws at you.
