How to be a good boss to employees

I propose a small self-assessment test, and I assure you that when you finish you will know if your behavior resembles that of a good boss to your employees.

If the result of this questionnaire is a "needs improvement", I encourage you to repeat each of the questions and apply our recommendations so that your employees end up performing effectively:

Good boss

1. Do you demand punctuality from your employees, but you are late, because you have flexibility in the schedule because you are the boss?

A good boss should set an example with his own behavior. You must apply to yourself what you demand of your staff. The current trend is bosses without offices, whose work table is positioned next to their team. Know their names, come to the office with them, share with them.

Remember that the information is powerThe more you dedicate yourself to observing your staff, the more you will learn from them, information that will serve you when applying motivation plans, training, setting objectives.

Try to be close and approachable.

2. Does your team know what is expected of them?

A good boss must set objectives, distribute functions and tasks and explain what and why. The important thing when ordering is to accompany the explanation with an explanation.

Always remember to add a 'because' after a request. A 'because' at the end of the request marks the difference between an employee committed to the project and an employee who does not know what he is doing or what for, which favors this last situation that they do not know how to solve problems generated by their task, and are 100% dependent employees.

Try to offer autonomy to your employees, they will appreciate it.

3. Are you too busy to listen to your employees?

A good boss always, I always repeat, has time to listen to an employee. Take care of new proposals, an idea, a complaint.

The distinction of a boss committed to the team is to provide a direct deal and committed, don't make the mistake of being unapproachable.

When you meet with an employee, fix your attention on that employee, do not pay attention to emails or calls, do not think that you can do two things at the same time. Show attention, concern, and respect for the person who is speaking to you.

4. Do you recognize effort and are you willing to reward it?

The difference between a good boss and a mediocre boss is the humane treatment. It is antiquated to think that within the payroll there is gratitude for punctuality, effort, good ideas ... obviously part of these behaviors are intrinsic to the worker. But you, as a good boss, should be attentive to thank you, it costs nothing and you are encouraging the increase in Positive emotions on your computer.

5. Does it allow a pleasant, relaxed work environment and encourage friendly treatment?

Remember, that emotions are contagious. If you encourage kindness and companionship, if you are energetic and enthusiastic, your team will behave in this way. For this, remember that you must be the first example.

To generate an environment with positive emotions, sometimes it is as easy as know how to compliment, do a test, and tell someone something as simple as: "how good the orange suits you", "Today you look very elegant", these statements cause a warm and pleasant feeling.

Allow a light-hearted atmosphere in your workday. Don't confuse hard work and responsibility seriously.

5. Do you provide your employees with the tools to achieve their goals?

A good boss must to facilitate the work of your employees. Know which are the strengths and weaknesses of the team, thanks to active listening and observation, and take the necessary steps to offer the tools that favor higher quality work.

A good boss helps and supports his team in the achievement of objectives, from the beginning of the project to the end.

6. Do you threaten your team with dismissal?

To generate an environment of commitment, responsibility and effort, there is no need to coerce or threaten. With coercion you will increase your ego but it will only make your employees hate you.

7. Are you interested in the continuous training of your team?

The objective of a good boss is to achieve objectives, generate ideas for improvement and help the professional development of their employees. For this reason, a good boss is interested in the adequate and continuous training of your employees.

8. Does error punish?

A good boss has confidence in himself and in his team. That is why it allows them flexibility and autonomy to carry out the work. Worrying about offer a mattress that guarantees sustainability in the event of a mistake.

Encourages search for solutions and not the culprits.

9. Do you do everything in your power to ensure that employees work productively, calmly and happily?

Precisely for this reason, one of the large companies, known to all, Google, allows 20% of its employees' time to work on something personal, it allows them a space where they can sleep and relax ... all because they know something that you should know: A carefree and calm employee performs better. And a space where greater freedom is allowed, generates more ideas and of higher quality.

In general, a good boss is enthusiastic, polite, seeks active listening, manages his tools and budget for good results, involves everyone as much as possible in decision-making, invests in training, rewards effort, sets clear and ambitious goals, allows mistakes, demands quality at work, encourages camaraderie and above all is a good example for his team.

And most importantly, a good boss is self-assess daily. Do not make the mistake of justifying your outbursts due to pressure, threats from the economic crisis, your ignorance of the situation of your company due to your long trips and lack of time. Be a field manager and of course never, under any circumstances, stop listening, generating new ideas and having a humane and close relationship.
