Improve your personal productivity with an alternative work program

personal productivity

There is a way to improve your personal productivity with an alternative and very interesting work program.

It consists of alternating a week of intensive work followed by a week of vacation or personal relaxation. This method is not well known but is commonly practiced by the most successful commercial agents around the world. Napoleon Hill learned this method from many successful people while doing research for his book Think and become rich but he did not understand why it was so effective and therefore did not integrate it into his book.

There are many variations of this method. Some people work for a week and then relax for two weeks. Others alternate two weeks of hard work with two weeks of relaxation. The basic concept is that you work in fairly short intense bursts of no more than a week or two (a week seems like the limit for most people), followed by a period of relaxation for at least a week.

Intense work period

For a week your focus will be on work and little else. You can limit yourself to 40 hours, but it is advisable to experiment with longer hours. Try to do 60, 80, or up to 100 hours of work during that week. End your days feeling full. Put off distractions. You will be able to watch TV and surf the internet later. It's only a week, really only a few days. Time will pass quickly if you immerse yourself in a project.

It is advisable to obsess over your work during this time. Everything else can wait. Friends and social outings can wait. Personal tasks can wait. Recycle your dirty clothes if possible. Remember, it's only one week.

Relaxation period

Let me clarify that this relaxation period is not the same thing as having a lazy week. It is a week of time for personal renewal and fun. It is a time to really live. Get out and enjoy life. Think of this week as a vacation week. It's good to treat it as seriously as you do your work weeks. However, instead of concentrating on work, focus all your attention on one or more aspects of your personal life.

Get to know other cities during this time. Have fun with new experiences. Read new books. Go out and spend hours with friends. Attend a workshop or seminar. Learn to dance. Do something that enriches your life.
