Jason McElwain: a dream come true

You're going to meet Jason McElwain.

He's an autistic American who made the news in 2006. I'll tell you his story.

Jason has a passion: basketball. This is why Greece Athena High School basketball coach Jim Johnson symbolically named him team principal.

On February 15, 2006, Greece Athena was playing a very important game. I was winning comfortably, so the coach let Jason play in the last 4 minutes.Jason McElwain: a dream come true

At first he missed two shots but then scored twenty points. 20 points in 4 minutes, a single person who is also autistic! The audience couldn't believe what they were seeing. When the game was over, everyone invaded the court to lift Jason up.

Jason met with President George W. Bush on March 14, 2006. The president made a stopover at the New York airport. Standing next to Jason, Bush told reporters:

"As you can see, a special person met us at the airport."

Bush praised Jason saying:

«Our country was captivated by an incredible story on a basketball court. It is the story of a young man who found his genius (his 'touch') on the basketball court, which, in turn, touched the hearts of all citizens across the country. "

Jason even won a ESPY award for Best Moment in Sport beating basketball player Kobe Bryant and his 81 points in the Final Four. The speech Jason gave after winning the award was written for him by his older brother. The topic of the speech was about dreams come true.

Here is the video that captures the magical moment:
