How is a good justification for a project structured?

For the presentation of a project it is necessary to fulfill several stages within the investigative process that guarantee its success. Among them is the justification of the project, which is the aspect that concerns us today in this article. We will delve into what the justification of a project, its importance, its characteristics and tools for its elaboration.

What is a project justification?

The justification of the project is one of the most important stages in the presentation of the research. It refers to the section of the written work where the reasons that motivate us to investigate the selected topic must be explained.

This section of a research project should answer the questions of the why and for what the choice, its importance and usefulness among other aspects that we will consider later.

But could we justify something about which we do not have clear ideas?

Of course not, it is difficult to defend something that is not clear to ourselves. For this reason, an order of action must be followed in the development of a project.

First of all, we must have a clear knowledge of what we want to investigate, what are the objectives pursued, reasons or purposes that drive us. These must be clearly defined and that can be fully understood by the actors involved in it.

We will briefly explain the steps prior to the justification of the project in order to lay solid foundations that guarantee its effective presentation.

First of all we must choose the theme what we will tackleFor this we must pay special attention to our level of preparation and capacities to study the subject based on knowledge, bibliographic resources, economic resources, among other aspects.

For example:

Consider that a person living in Brazil intends to investigate the eating habits of Africans and their impact on the health status of its inhabitants compared to any other continent. Before any justification you must evaluate your chances to move to the African continent and live with them, to know directly the type of food and their nutritional characteristics. This implies an investment of time, money and knowledge base to focus the investigation. Obligatory question to ask yourself, is this research feasible for me?

  1. That the subject to study is framed within our particular interests and that we are passionate about will guarantee a good performance in the investigation.

For example: If the art of artistic photography attracts us, it would be interesting to investigate the effectiveness of learning this art through the internet.

  1. We must specify clearly and concisely what our objectives are.
  2. Once these steps are exhausted, it is when we are capable and it is necessary to elaborate the justification of the research project.

Justification of a project2

How to develop a project justification?

Based on the previous delimitation that we have made regarding the subject, it is very useful to prepare a first draft, as an outline, that allows us to organize the ideas and help us to specify our thinking on the subject in question. By writing we can analyze and decide If the justification is convincing, because that is what it is about, we want to convince others of the importance of our project.

There are no problems or issues more insignificant than others, if in the justification it is possible to clearly state its scope, effects and benefits, it will acquire relevance and there will be plenty of reasons that support its execution.

For example, An investigation on the "Influence of television on human beings and its consequences on social behavior" may be as relevant as studying on "Psychological damage in children born in conditions of unwanted pregnancies" or "How long can they live a being in a street condition "

Writing style

The appropriate language to write the justification of a project must be one that allows us to specify what we want to achieve. Using keywords such as increase, establish, eliminate, reduce we can transmit security of achieving what we are looking for. Otherwise we can transmit with denotative words of limited chances of success, such as; help, encourage, collaborate, etc.

Some examples:

  • The implementation of this project will increase the purchasing power of ...
  • With the establishment of the multipurpose park in the vicinity of the school, it is possible for adolescents to invest their time ...

What are the questions that a project justification must answer?

It is not that these series of questions are posed at work, they are only a guide that will help us begin the writing.

The author's motivations for researching the topic.

For example, in a certain area of a city where there is a school for handicrafts, tailoring and tailoring, there are no haberdasheries, much less nearby stores where you can buy fabrics for tailoring. For a student of that institution, the subject of interest may well be the feasibility study from a haberdashery and cloth store near the institute.

  • It will be of great help to analyze your own concerns or preferences about a topic. For example:

Or you can focus on problems that are related to the social group in which you operate

  • It is important to highlight who benefits and in what way, for example:

Students and the community in general will have quick access to the acquisition of the materials they need and therefore save time and money to name a few here.

Justification of a project

Utility of project implementation.

This part of the project must clearly establish the following points:

  • Repercussions of the project in the short, medium and long term.
  • Based on the previous example we could infer an increase in the number of students in the institution; increased sources of work; feasibility of starting cooperative enterprises, etc.
  • Alternative solutions to the problem.

E.g.: Form a capital fund among the members of the institution in order to acquire wholesale materials and have them immediately available within the institution.

  • Reaction of the different actors involved in the project.

E.g.; Opinions of students, managers, teachers, and the community in general.

  • News provided with the project.

E.g.; Greater incentive for the development of artisan trades.

Of utmost importance is to establish how the project is related to state policies at the regional, municipal and national levels.

However, each and every one of these reasons does not necessarily have to be covered in the justification, establishing the most preponderant reason that induces the project and its scope in favor of a greater benefit or contribution to other research it will be the guarantee of success that is sought.

All these considerations can be covered or grouped into three groups that will allow us to express in a logical and concise way what we want to achieve with the justification of the project; Sell it!

  • The theoretical aspect. Theoretical framework, details the knowledge of the problem raised.
  • The practical aspect. Indicates the feasibility of application and who will benefit from it.
  • The Methodological. Identify the methodology used and the contributions it will offer to other investigations

Example of a project justification.

Returning to the case of the difficulty of obtaining textile inputs presented by the members of a school of arts and crafts, its justification would be as follows:

The purpose of this research is to solve the problem faced by the members of the Conchita Pérez Acosta educational community of arts and crafts, located in the La Isabela Urbanization in Valencia, Carabobo state, as well as the community in general.

Theoretical-practical courses of; elaboration of cloth and leather handbags and purses, cutting and confection, elaboration of intimate clothes, crocheting, looms and knitting, dolls, cooking and hairdressing.

It represents a source of free learning for the inhabitants of the urbanization and adjacent areas. It is a generator of tools for work, however they are severely limited in acquiring the textile and haberdashery materials necessary to carry out their practices.

The shops related to the textile industry in the city are located great kilometers away from where the institution is located. Moving to that area involves spending time, money and physical effort because the public transport system is chaotic.  The community mostly works in areas related to the textile branch.

The main objective of this project is to ensure that this urbanization has a branch of the chain of stores "Telares el Castillo". This branch will benefit the large population of the community and surrounding areas.
