Louis Armstrong viewed his marijuana use as "a healthy alternative to drinking."

Armstrong was born in August 1901 and grew up in New Orleans' Chinatown. His mother was a prostitute and his father abandoned them. Armstrong was raised by his grandmother during his childhood.

Armstrong developed an unusual relationship with his mother: He treated her more like an older sister. In the biography of Armstrong, written by Laurence Bergreen, Armstrong's mother is described taking him to bars (when Armstrong was 16 or 17) to teach him to drink "like a man."

However, Armstrong never developed a drinking problem. Bergreen attributes Armstrong's sobriety to his lifetime of marijuana use. Armstrong considered marijuana as a healthy alternative to drinking ... And you might be right if we see the pitiful quality of spirits during the prohibition of alcohol.

Armstrong smoked about three joints a dayHe later developed lung problems and died before his 70th birthday.

Why did I post this Armstrong curiosity on the blog ?:

1) Because I don't like the double standards with which marijuana is treated compared to alcohol. Alcohol addiction is documented to be more dangerous and harmful than marijuana.

2) Because centers that treat alcoholics should consider recommending marijuana use to their more chronic patients. Perhaps they will be surprised and see how their patients overcome their alcoholism.
