Mindfulness to improve leadership

A conscientious leader (with full attention to most of his work situations) can respond to changes with the necessary focus and clarity and thus avoid repeating the same mistakes. The practice of mindfulness, associated with the East, can be carried out in the West regardless of the frenetic pace of life today.

Ideally, pay attention to what is happening in the present moment. It is about focusing attention on the present in a way that allows the moment to be experienced and observed closely. Is about develop the skills that allow us to actively participate in what is happening at the moment, as well as the simultaneous visualization of that moment from a more strategic point of view.

I leave you a very nice video so that you understand what mindfulness consists of, also called Mindfulness:

Developing a more mindful approach encourages leaders to have a less critical view which, in turn, generates a more flexible response in tune with your objectives. When there is less clutter and distraction within your own head, it is easier to gain clarity and perspective; mindfulness allows us to observe everything in detail.

A conscientious leader can reduce clutter by paying attention to the situation. By acknowledging the situation in all its fullness, the leader can step back, observe, and respond with calm and purpose. Sometimes our past experiences or immediate reactions interfere with our ability to view the present in an unbiased way. Once we recognize this, we can silence internal comments and biases. This process of stepping aside from ourselves allows us to decide which approach will be best for organizing strategies in the current situation.

Research on mindfulness suggests that it can also help:

• reduce staff absences illness, injury and stress

• improve cognitive functioning, memory, learning ability and creativity

• improve productivity and improve general well-being of staff and business.

• reduce staff turnover and associated costs.

We must be aware that leadership is not a fad that says that if we are calm, everything will be fine. The reality of our work environment is often not right. Anyway, apply the use of mindfulness develops emotional and instinctive thinking that enhances the leader's ability to do the best for himself, for the team and for the organization to which he responds.
