Napping improves learning in young children

Sleep is important, we know that, however, a recent study in the United States has determined that Preschoolers who nap for an hour a day improve their information retention skills and overall learning.

Research also suggests that this hour of sleep is one of the keys to consolidating the knowledge acquired during the early stages of development and education.

Napping improves physical and neurological development in children under 5 years of age.

Researchers at the University of Massachusetts Sleep Unit suggest that preschool-age children have a better ability to remember what they are learning if they nap during the day. Even psychologist Rebecca Spencer, who was directly involved in the study, has said that after studying the behavior of more than 40 preschool children, the results determined that Naps bolster memory and help consolidate learning in the early stages of growth.

The research with these 40 children included visual memory games in which they had to memorize the position of the different images that were shown to them. This memory test was applied to the 40 children after they took an average of 77 minutes of nap.

The results were then compared days later with the same test but without napping. In conclusion, the researchers were able to determine that when the children napped for an hour, the children remembered the positions of the pictures 10% more compared to the test when they were awake.

Other studies have also revealed similar results regarding young adults. However, until now there is no data that will scientifically support the consequences of daytime sleep in younger children.

With this study, the researchers have shown that this period of time in which the little ones take a nap at noon, helps them to better assimilate everything they learn and, based on this, achieve their academic goals during their first years. Fountain
