Personal improvement is not immediate

Listen to this funny story what do you tell us Jorge Bucay in his book The way of spirituality : )

I learned with some pain this concept that the results are sometimes not immediate, although in a rather more prosaic way.

It was in Mexico. At a barbecue, and not at a keynote. From the mouth of my Mexican friends, and not from the hand of a great spiritual teacher. Between tequilas and pozoles, and not between books and notes.

At the table, among all the delicacies that were offered to us, there was a small pot with some bright green balls that I had never seen. Mexicans have a great gastronomic fondness for chili and they have a great variety of them, each spicier.

I had already learned to distrust the famous phrase of my Aztec friends, when they told me: «From this you can eat calmly that does not itch» because in Mexican food everything itches (although there are itches and itches), and the person who comes from abroad, and who does not have an "immunized" tongue, must carefully taste everything that is put in their mouth.

That's probably why I was surprised when my friends told me to be careful with that round chili, because it was very spicy. I, who always want to explore the different flavors that the typical food of each place offers me, I put, true to my caution, less than half of one of those chilitos in my mouth. It sting a little, but the taste was exquisite.

"It's not so bad ..." I said, almost boasting of my integrity, "I have tried other spicier ones" I added, and ignoring everyone's signs I put 2 more, whole, in my mouth and tasted them with a smile ...

2-3 minutes later, the smile was gone from my face.

My mouth felt on fire, my tongue ached, the heat was suffocating me and I could hardly breathe.

The water, which I drank in gush, was of no use, not the glass of cold milk I asked for, or anything else. I could only wait for it to pass ...

Meanwhile the teaching that I will never forget was recorded in my mind and in my esophagus: the results of things sometimes, in effect, are not immediate, especially regarding chili and the effects of the delicious Mexican food, although one could also add to the list of things that take time, the ostensible results of beauty creams and the transcendent achievements of the Personal growth. (Last words added by me to adapt them to the purpose of this blog).
