A 7 year old boy named Owen Howkins was born with a rare disease. Owen has Schwartz-Jampel syndrome, a disease that leaves his muscles in constant tension. Due to his illness he was afraid to interact with others.
Owen was very shy around strangers.
His illness made him nervous and he didn't like talking to people.
He was in constant tension.
But then something good happened. He met Haatchi and everything changed.
When Haatchi was a puppy, he was found tied to the train tracks. One of his legs was terribly mutilated, so it had to be amputated.
An animal charity tried to find him a home, but had no luck. Then Haatchi met with Owen.
Now, Haatchi is so happy that he can't stop wagging his little tail.
And Owen has changed too. He is much happier and has a faithful companion who is not separated from him.
Their bond is so incredible that it won first place in the "Friends for Life" category at the Cruft's Dog Show.
Students at the University of Hertfordshire made a short film about the incredible bond between Owen and Haatchi. They have even recorded their story in a book, available at Amazon.
