Summary of 5 self-improvement books

In this post I am going to leave you with a brief summary of the 5 best self-improvement books, totally subjective opinion :).

Let's start:

A summary of the 5 best personal development and improvement books.

1) "Unlimited Power" by Anthony Robbins:

Published in 1987. The main strength of this book is that it infects the enthusiasm of its author.

The power Tony Robbins is talking about is the ability to take control of your own life. Tony presents the skills that will be useful to obtain more success in your day to day. It is primarily based on Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), which was developed by Richard Bandler and John Ginder.

Tony explores different ways to speed up personal development and change, including the elimination of phobias and emotional scars. The techniques it presents are aimed at controlling your emotional state or response to different situations.

Some of the techniques include modeling (finding a role model), mental exercises to change associations, and anchoring (connecting an emotional state to a physical action or any other stimulus).

2) "Emotional Intelligence" by Daniel Goleman.

It was a groundbreaking book when it was published in 1995. It redefines what it means to be smart. Goleman gives considerable attention to limbic system, the part of the brain where emotions are processed.

Self-help books

Goleman speaks of what he calls "self-awareness" or "self-observation." It's very important be aware of our feelings if we want to change or control them.

Emotions play a fundamental role in the daily life of human beings and have been little investigated throughout history.

3) «The Inner Compass» by Álex Rovira.

This is one of the best books by this great author. A very creative book that surprises everyone who reads it for its very high level. The book consists of a series of letters that an employee sends to his boss analyzing reality to extract very valuable lessons for life.

Separate work goals from the vital goals to realize that we are losing the latter. Álex Rovira talks about the need to resume the course of our lives in order to exploit all our talents.

Highly recommended.

4) «Stories to think» by Jorge Bucay.

Through a series of stories, Jorge Bucay shows us various situations that they always hide a moral. The emotional account of each story makes us actively involved in it in order to assimilate much better the teaching it transmits.

It is a very enjoyable and easy to read book.

5) "Man's Search for Meaning" by Viktor Frankl.

Viktor Frankl was a man who endured and witnessed one of humanity's most horrible acts (the Holocaust). Product of this was born this book and it was his way of relating such events to the whole world.

Try to discover The meaning of life even, and especially, in the midst of great suffering.

Power without limits, like all those of neurolinguistic programming, seems to me without scientific foundation.
