Most effective types of learning

The vast majority think that learning has only one path, but the truth is that there are different types of learning Through which a person can acquire the necessary knowledge to evolve, acquiring not only the knowledge but also the values, skills and attitudes necessary to be able to coexist in society and carry out any type of activity or process to which we want to dedicate ourselves.

Implicit learning

It is what we could consider as initial learning, since implicit learning is that which takes place without any intention or awareness that you are learning.

In other words, this type of learning takes place without our realizing it, such as learning to walk or even learning to speak.

Explicit learning

However, in the event that there is an interest in learning something specific, consciousness obviously appears and therefore we would speak of explicit learning, so that we are going to obtain information voluntarily and we will force our brain to learn it.

In this case, for explicit learning it is necessary to activate the prefrontal lobes, which means that we will have to make use of the most evolved part of our brain. This means that the vast majority of other animals do not have the capacity or, at least, not the same capacity as humans for explicit learning.

Associative learning

In this case we talk about the person learns the association between stimuli or between a stimulus and a behavior, and it is presented in various modalities that depend on the various developers of this type of learning.

Non-associative learning

In this case, learning focuses on the change of response to a given stimulus that is repeated.

This type of learning also has an unconscious part, which is the fact that it takes place without us forcing it, so that, when we are constantly subjected to the same stimulus, finally a habit is created that allows us to normalize the situation although in reality nothing has changed on the outside.

As an example we could put the fact of having a neighbor who plays a certain instrument, which at first may possibly annoy us, but with the passage of time in the end we accept it unconsciously so that many times we do not realize if that day has been playing or not.

Meaningful learning

We move on to this other of the most interesting types of learning in which the person will obtain information which they will proceed to select based on their needs, create an organization and then establish relationships based on knowledge that he had previously obtained, which means that he is using knowledge already existing in his person to acquire totally new ones.

Cooperative learning

It is a type of learning in which the person will learn in the company of other individuals, for which groups are usually created that generally will not exceed six members, so that each one will have a responsibility within it. Everything will be managed and controlled by the teacher.

Collaborative learning

It is a type of learning that has similarities to cooperative learning, but in this case it will be the group members who make the decision about the way in which the solution to the problem posed by the teacher will be approached.

Emotional learning

We take a leap in this case towards emotional learning, a type of learning that focuses on improve the ability to manage our emotions as efficiently as possible.

It is an essential modality that also has great relevance on a psychological level, being able to considerably benefit all aspects of our day-to-day life, thus achieving a better quality of life and of course a greater capacity to relate and to develop ourselves personally.

Observational learning

As its name suggests, observational learning is based on the learning through imitation and observation of one or more people who will be called "model", so that behaviors are observed to later acquire them and introduce them into individual habits.

Experiential learning

It is a type of learning that is based on our experiences, so that we learn from both our successes and our mistakes, giving rise to reflection and personal assessment based on our knowledge, characteristics and abilities.

Of course, it is important to bear in mind that this learning can be positive or negative depending on the experiences lived by the person, and especially on their ability to analyze in detail the valid face and the one that can be detrimental to us or anyone of the people who may pass through our lives.

Discovery learning

It is a very active type of learning, since it is the person who is in charge of seeking knowledge, so that he takes an active attitude with the aim of discovering, relating and organizing the concepts to be able to adapt them to his own cognitive schema.

Rote learning

We move on to this type of learning that is based on fix in our memory the concepts we want to learn without the need to understand them, so that we only memorize although we are not really giving a value to that knowledge that serves us more than to repeat later.

Receptive learning

And we finish the list with receptive learning, which is one in which the individual receives certain information that he will have to absorb, so that we are talking about passive learning, and a good example of this is when the teacher facilitates a series of photocopies or focuses on a certain page of a book, and explains all the content but focuses exclusively on the texts provided, that is, provides a text and the student is reading while the teacher explains what has been read, so that the student just has to continue reading and understand everything so that what we call receptive learning comes into action.

These are all the most effective types of learning that you have observed takes place today, and within all it is important that we bear in mind that the ideal is to make a good combination that allows us to absorb the necessary knowledge ensuring that we also work our capacity to discover, synthesize, find out and in general to focus our learning in the direction that interests us the most, thus achieving our objectives.
