How to understand your negative traits

This is the 2nd task of the challenge "Be a better person in 30 days". If you don't know what this is all about, please read this article: Do you want to be a better person?

I am very excited about this straight because I see that it is going to be an exciting trip this month. We will be doing many different tasks that will help you to be better. What you did in Task 1 serves as a base platform for the rest of the tasks.

With that said, we are now going to move on to task number 2 of this challenge.

Understand your negative traits.

Make sure that you identified in task # 1 your 5 negative personality traits that you want to eliminate.

Today's homework will take about 10 minutes.

Although we cannot be proud of these negative traits, it is important that you know that becoming aware of our strengths and weaknesses is the first step towards personal growth. If we refuse to recognize a certain trait, for example arrogance, we will not be able to improve in that area.

Then, What are we going to do with these negative traits, after identifying them?

The first thing I want you to know is that you shouldn't reject them. Let's say you are vain. Instead of hating this trait of yourself and punishing yourself for it, accept it. Accept that you are vain and you are not proud of it.

The reason I say this is because resistance will only make internal conflicts prevent you from improving. The more you deny that you are conceited, the more conceited you will become. Denial does not solve the problem, it just makes you think the problem isn't there, which makes it even worse.

What should we do with our negative traits? The first step is to understand. Understand why we think we have this feature X. Understand why this feature bothers us so that we have a clear reason for the change. Then from there, we can draw up a plan immediately to change things.

We are going to focus on 3 of the 5 traits that you established in the first task. Take a notebook:

1) Write one of the traits on the paper: for example, "I have a tendency to speak ill of people."

2) Why do you think that you have a tendency to speak ill of people?

Because I believe that I am better than others and I do not accept that things are done differently than I think. I tend to prejudge others even if there are times when I am wrong. Despite everything, this is not always the case.

3) Why do you want to change this trait?

Because it causes me problems, I have conflicts with people, I feel unhappy. These are the things I want to avoid.

4) What small step can you take to change this?

I should not judge others so severely because I do not know their personal stories and an approach to try to understand their positions would not be bad, trying to be more empathetic.

I'm going to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, even with obvious evidence of bad behavior. I'm going to start thinking positively, not negatively, about people.

5) Repeat these 4 steps with the other 2 negative traits that you want to eliminate.
